Family History - Our Library
Since the time we moved from the basement of the county courthouse to our new building in the early 1970s we have been growing our research library. We are proud of our facility and our ability to serve the public with such a wonderful resource.
There are two ways to complete your research:
1) Come to the library in-person. The Admission is $6/day and includes admission to our museum.
2) Request a look up via email or regular mail (see service fees below).
We use PayPal to collect fees through the internet or you may send payment by regular mail. Make all payments out to Otter Tail County Historical Society or OTCHS.

We will search our indexes for $5.00 per name/ per index.
The indexes include the following: Births 1871-1915, Marriage Licenses 1869-1991, Deaths 1869-2001, Cemeteries 1865-current, Obituaries 1871-current, Naturalizations 1870-1919, History of Otter Tail County published 1916, Platbooks: 1884, 1902, 1912, 1925, 1933.
The $5.00 fee is for the look-up and must be paid before the work is completed. If something is found, the fee includes mailing, or emailing, a copy of the reference to you. We prefer to do this all via email. If working through the mail, please send SASE, name, approximate year(s) and what index you wish to be searched. Please, no more than three requests per envelope.
For more in-depth searches we charge by the hour, with a minimum of one-hour. Additional billing will be in 1/2 hour increments. Our research assistant can provide you with an estimate of the time needed to complete your request.

Possession of one of our images, such as the purchase of a digital copy of our image(s), does not constitute ownership of the image. The fee of $15.00 per photo grants you one-time, one reproduction, use only. You may not make prints from or transfer copies of the digital files to anyone. They must go through the same process with the Historical Society as you did. Conditions of Photograph Use: 1. Credit must be given to the Otter Tail County Historical Society and the original photographer, if known. 2. Credit lines must appear with the photograph. 3. Permission to publish or display an OTCHS photograph must be granted in writing. Possession of an OTCHS photograph does not constitute permission to use it. 4. Permission is for one-time use only. The OTCHS retains all rights to the photograph and they will not be used for any purpose other than that being given permission for. 5. OTCHS reserves the right to refuse to grant permission and/or provide photo reproduction services to publishers and individuals who have not complied with our policies. |
